This week I did not get around to reading my book. I did read an interesting article about daylight savings time. While discussing daylight savings time with some friends, I found out that not every country does this. This whole time I have always though it was something that was world wide. It turns out that only the European Union a d about 35 other countries participate. DST started in 1966 in the United States. There are many countries that have used DST and stopped using it as well. Each year there are new countries that use DST. I am amazed that it is something that is not used everywhere.

The next chapter in "The Help" is from Minny's point of view. Minny is Aibilene's friend who has an attitude. She has just started working for Miss Celia. During her first week at the house she is cleaning a lot. She describes the house as very dirty. It is obvious the Miss Celia does not do much cooking or cleaning. Even though Miss Celia does not do much, she wants to, she just does not know how. Minny is starting to teach her how to cook now. Chapter five changes point of view to Miss skeeter. Miss Skeeter is the daughter of Mrs. Charlotte Boudreaux. She has just returned form college. Miss Skeeter is different from the rest of the women. She has an education and she wants to work. She doesn't want to get married, have children, and hire maids. She is very independent and wants to keep it that way. Her mother on the hand, does not like this idea.

Since my last reading session, there have been some new characters introduced. One of the other main characters in this book is Minny Jackson. Minny is a very opinionated person. She has always had a hard time being quiet. She works for Miss Hilly. Eventually Miss. Hilly fires Minny. Minny has done something bad but, has not told her secret yet. Minny finds a new job with Celia Foote. Celia lives in the country, she is married and is trying to have children. Celia does not know much about cooking and cleaning but, her husband does not want a maid. Celia secretly hires Minny to work for her during the day while her husband is at work. Beginning with chapter three, the book is narrated by Minny. I flipped through the book and found that the book is narrated by different characters throughout the story.

"The Help"

For this blog, I started reading "The Help" byKathryn Stockett. The story takes place in Mississippi in the 1960s. Aibileen is an African-American who works as a maid for a white family. The first couple of chapters gives an idea of what Aibileen does on a daily basis when she is at work. She works for the Foote family and takes care of their baby, Mae. I have heard many great things about this book. I am excited to take some time for myself and just read for enjoyment.
